Module Three Discussion: Family Counseling Theories Module Three Discussion– 60 points For this discussion forum, respond to the following questions: This week you read about therapeutic approaches to working with families. You were exposed to behavioral couple therapy (BCT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and some prevention programs such as Prepare/Enrich. Each of these theories has a place in family counseling. You also read about some prominent issues that impact marriages such as infidelity. To prepare for this week’s discussion, read your course materials and consider the counseling issues related to working with infidelity in a couples therapy process. Reflect on the techniques and theories that might be used to address this issue. For this week's discussion forum, respond to the following: In cases of infidelity, should the act of infidelity be revealed in therapy and, if so, how much should be told? One model of therapy requires no disclosure and respects self-determinism. This model is most prevalent outside the United States. A second model of therapy requires the noninvolved spouse be made aware of the affair if it has not been previously disclosed before therapy begins; if an affair is kept secret, it cannot be treated. What are the pros and cons of each approach? In what circumstances might each approach be recommended? Contraindicated? Discuss your belief about the potential for successful recovery from infidelity in a relationship. With these thoughts in mind Post by Day 4 responses to the questions above based on your learning resources as well as other information you learned in this course, of how. Read a selection of your colleagues' postings. Respond by Day 6 to at least three of your colleagues who chose different points to address. Expand on your colleague’s posting in one of the following ways: Discuss a technique or theory that might be useful for addressing infidelity. Discuss how a psychodynamic theorist might approach the issue of infidelity. Discuss how you would work with the couple if they decide to end the relationship. Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made. Use examples to support your ideas. Be sure to cite your points using the learning resources. You may also use other scholarly literature to support your discussion. Citations and references must be in APA format. See the grading rubric for more information. Peer Response: In order to meet minimum requirements, respond to at least 3 peers on 3 different days with substantive responses and support these responses with references.
