Strategic Sector Analysis and Personal Skill Reflection within the New Chinese Tea Industry

Industry Overview and Emerging Trends in New Chinese Tea Markets

After graduation, I want to return to China and join the New Tea Drinks Industry. New Chinese tea combines traditional Chinese tea culture with modern fashion concepts. It redefines tea consumption through innovative product development, fashionable branded packaging, and digital marketing. New Chinese tea includes inheriting traditional Chinese tea culture and launching various creative teas, milk, fruit, and tea lattes. This type of tea has not only improved the taste but also pays more attention to the health and nutrition of the ingredients. New Chinese tea has gradually become the favourite drink of young people in China. In recent years, topics such as "the first cup of milk tea in autumn" have emerged on social media, and it has become a trend among people of all ages who love new Chinese tea. Experts point out that the market size of new Chinese tea will reach 193.3 billion yuan (26.6 billion US dollars) in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 15.7%. It is expected to be nearly 250 billion yuan by 2025 (Blend of Traditional Tea Culture and Modern Fashion Wins Hearts of Young Consumers - Global Times, 2024).

Labour Market Dynamics and Employment Structures in the Tea Beverage Industry

The new Chinese tea culture is developing rapidly, expanding its market share. By 2023, the market size will reach RMB 193.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 15.7%, and is expected to be close to RMB 250 billion in 2025. The industry's growth has driven labour market expansion, especially in first-tier cities, where store employees are mainly young people aged 20–30 but with high mobility and poor stability. R&D and management positions are relatively stable, and skill requirements are gradually increasing, covering formula mastery and digital operations. Brands motivate employees through career promotion planning and use digital recruitment to adapt to store expansion.

Positions are widely distributed. Store operations involve tea production and management, R&D requires knowledge of tea culture and food nutrition, marketing requires proficiency in social media and data analysis, and technology development promotes online and offline integration. Industry challenges include employee management, technological innovation, consumer loyalty maintenance, and cost control. Companies must strengthen training, innovate products, improve marketing capabilities, and promote sustainable development to cope with competition and market demand.

Core Technical and Soft Skill Requirements for Industry Practitioners

Practitioners in the new Chinese tea drinks industry need to have various skills. First, when making drinks, they must be familiar with tea recipes and production processes. Second, when operating equipment, they must be proficient in using smart devices such as ordering systems and self-service equipment. Third, for product development, they must have tea knowledge and a food science background to develop healthy and innovative drinks. Fourth, employees can use management systems, marketing teams need to use social media to analyse current trends, and R&D positions need to innovate products through market data analysis to attract consumers' attention. In addition, it promotes the integration of online and offline businesses while ensuring data security and stable system operation.

Practitioners of new Chinese tea need to have a sense of service and uphold the concept that customers are God, and getting along with colleagues is also important. Good teamwork and promotion can help individuals learn more. In addition, practitioners must respond to changes in work with a stable mentality to adapt to the needs of the new tea market. Moreover, adherence to professional ethics is essential when seeking employment in the future.

Experiential Learning and Critical Self-Reflection from Workplace Practice

During the holiday in June this year, I returned to China and got a part-time job at CHAGEE. Bawang Cha Ji is a representative brand of new Chinese tea drinks. During my part-time job at CHAGEE, I participated in many different tasks in the operation process, including ordering, beverage making, and equipment operation. This experience made me feel the importance of consumer needs and collaboration among colleagues. I met different customer needs through ordering, such as the demand for sweetness and temperature. Some customers came to the store and did not know what they needed, and I helped them understand their preferred flavours through conversation.

The part-time experience helped me discover some strengths and weaknesses. My strength is that I can quickly integrate into the team and become familiar with various work processes. My communication and recommendation skills improved, and I developed a better service attitude. However, my weakness is that during peak hours, I sometimes become anxious and prone to mistakes. Once, I received a bad review from a customer because I made the wrong drink. I also realised that I need to deepen my understanding of product characteristics and improve my proficiency with machine equipment.

Based on these reflections, I aim to improve my stability under pressure, reduce careless mistakes, and enhance my product knowledge and innovation ability. This will help me face workplace challenges more calmly after graduation.

Structured Career Planning and Professional Development Strategy

Short-Term, Mid-Term, and Long-Term Career Objectives

Short-term Goals: When I graduate, I want to get an offer from CHAGEE as an intern.

Mid-term Goals: I aim to become a branding specialist in CHAGEE's marketing department within two to five years of employment.

Long-term Goals: Five years from now, my aim is to be the marketing director of the CHAGEE marketing department.

Actionable Career Development Plan and Competency Enhancement Strategy

Current competencies include marketing knowledge, consumer behaviour analysis, and proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. My part-time experience also enhanced my communication and teamwork skills. I have experience using platforms such as WeChat and Little Red Book for brand promotion.

Professional development needs include improving communication confidence, managing pressure during busy periods, enhancing technical skills in equipment operation, and deepening product and brand knowledge. I plan to learn from experienced colleagues, improve time management, and study CHAGEE's cultural background to provide professional customer service.

My current target is to join CHAGEE headquarters in the marketing department. Employers require innovative thinking, market insight, and proficiency in office software.
