Evaluation of Information Sources and Their Relevance to Waste Management Research

A key component of studying and learning is finding and using resources that support one's research or offer alternative interpretations of the subject matter. First and foremost, one needs to know where to find, how to obtain, and how to apply the information. Researchers must be able to carefully examine their sources to ensure that they are relevant and of a quality that allows them to be used in their work (SkillsYouNeed, 2022). Reflecting on the sources of information used in a research study or project enables the researcher to assess the relevance of the sources concerning the topic of study and determine whether the content and methods support the topic. Therefore, the sources of information used in this project should reflect on trash and waste management and how to turn waste into cash. The literature review should also focus on and provide relevant insights into the topic of the study.

Assessment of Topic Selection and Validation Procedures in the Suhar Waste Management Project

Additionally, the topic selection criterion was clear since it followed the existence of the problem in Suhar and its effect on people, as the area generates 3.5 tonnes of waste yearly (Beah Website). If not controlled, garbage accumulation can be a significant challenge to residents, necessitating the need for this project and the choice of the topic. Validation of the topic selection was vital in ensuring that the topic was of great concern to the people and the area. Proof through website research and consultation with family members and friends was critical and efficient in helping the researcher identify the source of the garbage accumulation problem. As a result, the researcher had enough information on the issue and how it could be addressed in a beneficial way for the people. Website research and consultation with family and friends helped identify the primary source of information by contacting the local authority responsible for waste management in the Suhar area. The Beah Website provided the necessary and relevant information about the authority, significantly contributing to the project topic.

Analysis of Literature Search Techniques and Academic Database Utilization

While conducting a literature review on garbage and waste management, the sources used were relevant and contributed to the development of the project topic. The sources for the literature review were identified by searching various research sites to enrich the research on waste management. The researcher started with ProQuest, hoping to find articles and journals related to the topic of study. The first term used was "garbage management," which yielded over 112,075 sources that were mostly about garbage in general, and many of them did not include the management aspect. For simplicity in finding relevant sources, the researcher changed the phrase and used "waste management" to search for articles to consider in the literature review. However, the search did not yield the expected outcomes, and the researcher shifted to Google Scholar. The phrase "waste management" was used, which produced 65,068 results regarding waste management. The researcher then limited the search by introducing a timeline of 2015 to 2021, which yielded 57 sources. From these sources, two that were more closely linked to the topic were selected for use in the study and literature review.
