Contextual Overview of the Negotiation Scenario and Key Participants

I was engaged in a negotiation with my landlord when she wanted to raise the rent. Before she could increase the rent, she informed me and we had to discuss it.

Evaluation of Negotiation Outcomes and Mutual Benefit Realisation

The result was something of a compromise in which the landlord raised the rent but only by a small amount. It resulted in a win-win situation for both of us because I could afford the rent hike and the landlord could raise the rental fee, though not to the extent she had desired. She had desired to raise a higher amount that I felt I could not afford.

Identification and Awareness of Available Strategic Alternatives

There was an option to move out, bargain for a smaller increase, or consent to the increase in her rent. Both the landlord and I knew about these alternatives.

Assessment of Stakeholder Interests and Awareness in the Negotiation Process

While the landlord intended to raise the rent to correspond with market rates, I desired to retain the rent as reasonable. Each party knew what was in their best interests.

Analysis of Value Creation and Distribution During the Negotiation

Value was generated during the negotiating process when both sides were able to come to an agreement that served their respective interests.

Influence of Assumptions on Negotiation Dynamics and Outcomes

The landlord first suggested a large increase because she thought that I could afford to pay the increased rent. The negotiation process was more difficult as a result of this presumption.

Evaluation of Preparation Strategies Prior to the Negotiation Engagement

Since the landlord approached me abruptly and informed me about the rent increase, I was not prepared for the negotiation. I just engaged in the negotiation without prior preparation.

Emotional and Perceptual Responses During the Negotiation Interaction

I felt the landlord was unfair to me by intending to raise the rent to an amount I could not afford; I felt she was kind of oppressing me. Also, I felt she was unfair by increasing the rent without informing me earlier.

Reflective Assessment of Negotiation Outcomes and Future Improvement Strategies

The landlord's assumption made the negotiation process difficult at first. But we managed to work things out and come to a consensus by being honest with one another and by being aware of one another's interests.
