Personal Profile and Professional Motivation for Healthcare Practice
I am a nursing professional specializing as a family nursing practitioner, and I am pursuing a Healthcare Course to advance my nursing education. I firmly believe that the nursing profession exists to serve the general population, particularly those who may be struggling with both medical and financial issues. The conviction has driven me through my career path, leading me to concentrate my efforts on helping the most fortunate. Nursing is a profession that demands commitment, empathy, and a desire to learn. These elements have been my driving force in my career, pursuing advanced education in nursing to help better execute my roles as a nursing professional. I carry the burden of providing the services people need to live a healthy lifestyle and improve their well-being. I am self-driven, goal-oriented, keen on detail, and always committed to my roles in whatever capacity to serve people with health issues.
Additionally, I chose the Healthcare Support course because of my experience with my family as I was growing up and the healthcare situations I have encountered in my career path. The healthcare industry is constantly evolving due to changes and advancements taking shape in the sector. The training and education of healthcare support professionals began when skilled medical personnel was lacking during the Second World War (Taylor, 2022). A healthcare support professional's responsibilities include performing physical examinations, establishing diagnoses, treating patients, ordering tests and analyzing the results, prescribing drugs, providing additional patient counseling, and even helping with operations. The medical support staff is always at the forefront of addressing the physician shortage that has plagued modern society, a challenge especially apparent in primary care.
Furthermore, my mother was diagnosed with cancer while I was an adolescent. Her health and death seemed to be hanging in the balance, and my entire world crumbled. I was abruptly thrust into the position of carer since I was always by her side most of the time. As each physician assessed the functions of different symptoms, I accompanied my mother to endless doctor's appointments, moving from her primary care provider to various specialists. I witnessed my mum undergoing numerous rounds of radiation therapy and chemotherapy. My main concern was for her to get well. I decided to join her medical team at that moment, even though I knew nothing about healthcare. I was determined to aid my mother in recovering from her condition while winning a minor victory in medical science.
As I watched her go through the condition of her recovery, I purposed that one day I would enroll in a physician assistant or healthcare support course so that I could help many people suffering as my mother suffered. In addition, as I go through this course, I hope to acquire the necessary nursing skills and knowledge to care for patients in hygienic and safe environments. I also aspire to gain knowledge and competence to help me function effectively in healthcare settings and get involved in the workplace for shorter times while executing my work-related roles independently. By completing it, I hope to be fully equipped to care for all patients with different conditions to help them recover their health.
Professional Career Background and Healthcare Sector Experience
Even as I pursue a Healthcare Support course, I have relevant personal and vocational experience in nursing while working in different healthcare settings. Currently, I work as a trauma nurse at Highland Hospital in the Emergency Department, the only public hospital in Alameda County that serves most of the disadvantaged and uncovered residents of the county. My responsibilities and roles as a trauma nurse include providing support, where I give support to the patients by giving diagnosis and care. Another responsibility I undertake is preparing for surgery operations and offering support to the surgeon during surgery. I also recognize deterioration signs in unstable patients and provide emergency medications.
From 2018 to 2020, I also worked with a non-profit institution in California called Dainty as a healthcare advisor, which allowed me to travel to Europe to deliver medical products and medical education to impoverished areas of the nation. While working in this organization, my duties were providing medical guidance and instruction on how people can live healthy lifestyles regardless of where they are based. In addition, I was delivering medical products and educating people on how to use them in remote and neglected areas where many people suffer diverse healthcare issues.
My career aspirations include becoming a competent healthcare support professional, providing primary support care to patients, and guaranteeing that every patient can access the preliminary and supportive care they need to help their ailing conditions.
Healthcare Workplace Environments and Professional Requirements
Additionally, healthcare professionals can perform different responsibilities in different healthcare workplace environments. These environments include nursing homes, general hospitals, and dental centers. The qualifications and requirements needed to work in these environments differ since they provide different healthcare services.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has forecasted that the number of healthcare occupations will rise by 16% between 2020 and 2030, creating approximately 16.97 million new healthcare jobs in the sector. Therefore, different healthcare environments will need to hire individuals who fit there. Dental centers will need to hire dental assistants. Different states have distinct standard requirements for dental assistant education. The BLS notes that this post often necessitates passing an exam and graduating from a recognized institution (UMA, 2022).
It could be a 1–2-year curriculum from a professional or technical dental assistant training center in some states. An associate's degree may be necessary for some states; however, this is less frequent. According to the BLS, administrators of medical and health services typically need a bachelor's degree to work in a hospital, but for other institutions, a master's degree might be necessary (UMA, 2022). For health and medical service management professions in a hospital, an individual may require extra licensing or accreditation based on the type of medical facility and the state the individual serves. Individuals who desire to work in nursing homes need to have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and be recognized as Registered Nurses (RNs) by the states' nursing bodies.
Importance of Work Experience for Healthcare Career Development
Work experience relates to receiving practical knowledge while working for a company, and one can learn about a specific function, organization, or career path. Most organizations also view internships, job monitoring, and volunteering as work experience forms (Indeed, 2022). Any professional approach requires work experience to progress since it informs people about themselves and helps them develop abilities (Kirkham, 2022).
An individual is better prepared for more senior and advanced roles in their profession with relevant work experience. Having numerous years of job experience also gives individuals access to a network of professionals that can assist them in progressing their careers. While achieving particular qualifications, it is occasionally necessary to have a minimum of years of work experience (Oswald-Egg & Renold, 2021). In addition, a person's years of professional experience help prospective employers know if they can succeed in a position or require more training and direction (Indeed, 2022).
With enough professional experience, one might feel secure, capable, and informed enough to seek management positions in their industry.
Planned Work Placement in a Nursing Home Environment
After completion of my Healthcare Support course, I intend to carry out my work placement in a nursing home as a nursing support worker. Work placement in nursing will give me a good space and opportunity to gain relevant practical knowledge and skills to carry out my duties effectively and efficiently.
In any healthcare setting, nurses are the only medical professionals who spend most of their time with patients. Therefore, as a nursing support worker, I will have ample and unlimited patient interactions, informing my career competence and growth. While working there, I will work closely with all registered nurses to provide sufficient care to patients of all ages and ensure that every patient receives the appropriate care according to their medical condition. Through these goals, I intend to gain competence in my area of practice as a healthcare support worker.
Strategies for Gaining Professional Experience Through Job-Finding Skills
There are diverse ways of gaining work experience, and every healthcare professional should deliberate on exhausting all means possible to gain the relevant work experience required to build their careers. One way to look for work experience is by using job-finding skills, including online searches where one can find classes and workshops to attend.
Joining classes that teach the qualities I want to develop can help me get new experiences. I can use internet searches to find nearby and online classes (Indeed, 2021). Through online searches, I might come across online courses or training videos that might teach me new skills and techniques for using them.
Workshops assist professionals in developing new abilities, enhancing existing ones, and keeping consistent with cutting-edge work procedures (Indeed, 2021). Many seminars allow participants to put acquired skills into practice through simulated circumstances utilizing real-world resources, including computers, in IT training. Workshops can also allow me to connect and meet other individuals in my field with whom we can exchange ideas and acquire new skills.
Preparation Strategies for Healthcare Employment Interviews
While preparing for the interview for work experience, I will use some tips to ensure I am thoroughly prepared to emerge the best in the interview. First, I will keenly examine the job descriptions to acquaint myself with every detail regarding the job, including qualifications, qualities, and experience the employer needs. Familiarizing myself with these details will convince the employer of my qualification for the job.
Secondly will be considering my qualification in line with the required qualifications for the role (Keiling, 2022). Understanding my qualification for the job will explain to the employer my interest and why I am the best candidate. Thirdly, I will research the company and the role, which will inform me of every detail regarding the organization I intend to work with since one cannot work with an institution that does not know anything about it.
Next, I will consider my responses to the questions asked in an interview (Keiling, 2022). For example, one of the usual questions is: Why do you want to work here? My response to this question will be: I would appreciate the chance to work with a healthcare organization that is changing lives. Throughout my employment hunt, finding a healthcare facility with a welcoming workplace culture and beliefs that reflect my own has remained a high priority, and this hospital is at the top of that list.
I will also ensure that my resume and relevant academic certificates are ready before the interview. On the interview day, I will dress decently in an official outfit that would portray me as a person prepared to take up the role. During the interview, I will sit upright and speak with a strong voice accompanied by appropriate body language.
